BTE Company History

Early Breakthroughs

Our innovation dates back to the 1970s. Pioneering hand surgeon Dr. Raymond Curtis envisioned one clinical device that could simulate all the motions and forces of real world functional activities. After a few prototypes, the first Work Simulator was born. So was BTE. The value and benefits of functional rehabilitation were quickly recognized… demand grew quickly.

Evolving Applications

By the late 1980s, BTE’s applications in work capacity evaluations, functional rehab, task simulation, industrial rehab, and orthopedic rehab had grown. In the 1990s, BTE expanded the possibilities for functional testing establishing worker testing standards for industry. Meanwhile, the versatility of the BTE system lent itself to other treatment and evaluation needs, such as head injuries, cervical spine, cardiac, pulmonary and burn therapy. By the new millennium, there were over 3000 BTE systems in use worldwide. That number continues to grow.
